Happy International Nurses Day
May 12th is International Nurses Day
HealthWare celebrates International Nurses Day by thanking all of the nurses, especially those in home health and hospice that always are going above and beyond. We know that you work long hours, sometimes get yelled at for the wrong reasons and aren't afraid to do the right thing, even when it's the most difficult. Nursing is emotionally taxing, but highly rewarding and so very needed by so many people. Our doctors can't do everything alone and without nursing staff support, the medical community at large would grind to a screeching halt. Whether your nursing time is spent inputting data, assisting in clinical and diagnostic procedures or simply providing comfort, we thank you for all that you do.
Traditionally, May 12th is the famous Florence Nightingale's birthday. She is considered the founder of modern nursing as we know it. International Nurses Day was recognized since 1963 internationally, but was not implemented into practice in the United States until 1974. Many hospitals, nursing homes and home health agencies show their appreciation in a variety of ways throughout the year, but May 12th is the nursing team's one special day. Several other nursing holidays have since been implemented, such as National Student Nurses Day on May 8th, National Nurses Week and even National School Nurse day.
The International Council of Nurses prepares a special Nurses' Day kit yearly that contains educational materials and public information made to be shared. Nurses may obtain a copy from the International Council of Nurses Website:
Multiple language editions are available: Japanese, Italian and Portuguese are provided.
